I realise "Development" can mean a lot of things, but I'm a *programmer* trying to use the SDK, compile/modify the mostly undocumented samples, and write my own application. These forums just don't wo...

I'm working on a book for Rift development. It's not finished yet, but you can buy the early access version and read the chapters as they're released. The example code for the book is available on Github. It probably doesn't have much more documentation than the Oculus examples, but then that's what the book is for.
I've also created a minimal single file example on Github.
That would probably be either this forum or the Community Support forum next door. Unfortunately the signal to noise ratio in both is somewhat low, owing to people not really keeping their posts on topic or putting them in the right forum.
Additionally, you can try asking for help under the oculus tag on Stack Overflow. There's not a lot there yet, but I suspect it will grow.
Plus, if you actually say what problem you're having, you're more likely to get a useful reply than by just implying there's not enough support.
Have you read the developers guide yet?

Is it just me? I could use a forum where DirectX or OpenGL programmers could discuss Rift programming issues without that getting ignored or buried in the 'user' noise, if I've failed to spot exactly that forum then please let me know how dumb I am.
