Killer game idea for J Carmack and Oculus (Xtreme Rant)
Ok, here's what would be THE quintessential Rift experience for J Carmack and Oculus to bring to the world.
Many people have experienced the phenomenon called Sleep Paralysis. It deals with the body not fully emerging from deep sleep properly, so you're stuck in a state between wakefulness and dreaming. You cant move and you feel an ominous presence in the room.
Imagine recreating that Horror for the Rift. Complete with kickass story and revolutionary game mechanics. You start the game in the darkness of your ordinary bedroom on a stormy night, stuck in the world between sleeping and awake. You see your body under the covers as the lightning cracks. But there is something...else...there to. As the lightning cracks again you see 5 Malevolent shadows standing around your bed. Each one the keeper of one of the 5 dream states.
The bargain is, fight to wake up, defeating each one of the (keepers) of the 5 dream states or forfeit your soul. You can imagine the gameplay/story possibilities. Each dream state could represent a subconscious struggle or fear of the player that he/she has to resolve, with a silent hillesque puzzle structure. Surreal open world dreamscapes riddled with your inner demons and physics based puzzles. Basically a system seller. And Perfect for the type of mind fuckery the Rift is capable of delivering....So get crackin on that.

- raidho36ExplorerActually in the state of sleep paralysis you're completely awake, and complete inability to move pretty naturally causes severe anxiety. But this state winds off in a time period between 10 seconds and 2 minutes.
- AnonymousThere's plenty of great ideas out there, I wouldn't call any given one particularly killer :)
I'm particularly fond of story-driven space shooters, myself. A few look promising, so I'm excited. I would really love to see a space exploration game that is a modernized version of Elite. That is, a really large, procedurally generated galaxy.
I think the worlds-within-worlds concept that Alone used has the most potential for revolutionary titles. I would absolutely love to see a game that tricks you for a while in a regular "real" world, then oddities start happening a la The Longest Journey or The Matrix. So many possibilities :D - rarewave82Honored GuestI think what you might be looking for is this Zoma.. By the man himself :)
And yes, official Oculus Rift already supported and working very well in alpha testing.
