More resolution = more revolution
Hi
The next generation of small display is on the way. Look at the new smartphone Sony Xperia Z or the new HTC One, they have a full HD display.
Because not only the most high viewing angle but also the resolution cloud make the Oculus VR glasses to a revolution, try to implement such a full HD display as soon as possible. Also guess about to place two displays vertically - for each eye its own, to get even more resolution.
With such a VR glass you have a real revolution!!
Thanks for thinking forward.

- cyberealityGrand ChampionWell I think the Rift will be a revolution now, even at 720P, but obviously we would like to improve resolution in future models.
- MrGeddingsExploreryeah i dont mind the screen door effect for now as long as the 3d is good and makes you feel like your in the world ;-) the future of VR now a bit fuzzy but will get clearer over time ;-)
- PapaBlissHonored GuestI currently own the Sony HMZ-t1 which uses dual OLED screens and has roughly a 70 degree FOV. I have not felt that the 720p resolution hinders the experience at all and the fact that you are so immersed even with the limited FOV mitigates any resolution issues in my opinion. I far and away prefer playing games and watching movies on my 720p HMZ-T1 and I have a full sized movie theater in my house, which I only now use when I have guests or the whole family wants to watch.
I am beyond excited to receive my RIFT as the immersion factor and head tracking is far and away better than the HMZ-T1(which I love) for gaming and virtual world interaction without a doubt.
The projects we will be making are focused on meditation and producing mind altered states utilizing the RIFT and a few other complimentary technologies we have up our sleeves. I have been using the HMZ-t1 for now to test the ideas out, but I can hardly contain myself while waiting anxiously to get into the RIFT and start churning out what I am sure will be mind blowing content.
Big kudos to all at Oculus for taking big chances and doing big things on the bleeding edge. Cant wait to see you on the VR side ;-)...

Go "retina" and quadruple the resolution with this display from Japan Displays:

7 inch 2560x1600 ... slower PCs could still render at 1280x800 and upscale, but screendoor effect would be greatly reduced ;-) - KuraIthysHonored Guest

heh. That would do a lot... A substantial leap over 1080p, anyway. Seems like it might be available around the time of a planned consumer version, but that might not be soon enough to actually use one.
Still, who knows? - FrexxiaHonored Guest

Remember that in the HMZ-T1 you have 720p per eye, while in the rift it's split in two. - AirhoggHonored GuestI agree. I think the availability of a "high-end" version is inevitable. The immersion is very good now, but you have to have clarity for this to really take off...otherwise it will become a novelty. We will be there when I'm able to read the instrument panel of a VR aircraft. I'm afraid that 1080p won't allow it either, but Oculus is definitely on the right track! I envision an OLED screen that curves further around the users eyes...maybe giving the user some peripheral vision and removing the "hoodie" effect. Can't wait!!!

Digital psychedelics? - SebbiHonored GuestThe Rift kit arrived today and boy are the pixels obvious. I don't think 1080p can fix this ... pixel density has to at least double, especially for objects not right next to yourself.
So let's hope for those 7" 2560x1600 displays being available soonish ;-)
