Near-eye light-field displays

Just saw the SIGGRAPH 2013 emerging technologies video, and noticed this neat tidbit. I've been interested in the implications of "light-field" technology ever since reading about the Lytro camera, as a display technology I could see it playing a huge part in future HMDs.
