Need help in getting started

Hello,

I have installed the runtime and SDK for 0.4.4, updated the firmware using config utility and restarted my system.

But when i click on "Show Demo scene" from config utility to see if the setup is right, i get the following error message

---
There is a problem with your Rift configuration.
The Rift is plugged into a different GPU than the one the application is rendering with.

Rift on GPU: 0, Rendering on GPU: 1
---

Here is my system configuration :

Windows 7, 64 bit (service pack 1) with 16 GB Ram
intel core i7 processor
NVidia Quadro 2100 M
DirectX runtime version : 11.0

From what i know, the system only has a single GPU. So i am still confused on how Rift render to a different GPU.

I have searched for it online and found a few threads that discuss a similar error message. But i could not find a way to resolve it.

Any help on this please ?

Thank you

Ram

  • Are you certain your computer is not using an Intel GPU in any way?

Is the Rift plugged into the Nvidia card via HDMI (or DVI with the adapter) and NOT the motherboard?
  • Thanks for your reply.

You are right, that could be reason.
I am using a Dell Precision M4800 laptop and searched around for hints if it had multiple graphics card as you had suggested. I found this in the specs :
    ---
With switchable graphics, the M4800 features both integrated Intel HD Graphics 4600 and a dedicated NVIDIA Quadro K2100M graphics card with 2GB of GDDR5 discrete memory.
    ---

I am now looking for a way to know if my HDMI is connected to the NVIDIA graphics card.
I will post here after i have found some confirmation on that or get it working.

    Cheers,

  • I tried the setup on a different laptop that does not have Intel GPU integrated with the motherboard and it worked fine.

I can now continue to try the API in the other machine.

Thanks for your help in identifying the cause.

  • Is there any way around the Intel GPU issue besides new hardware? Previously someone had mentioned that an older version may not have had this issue.

    Thank you.
