No Unity Pro in Oculus Rift 2 :(

I just pre-ordered Oculus Rift Development Kit 2 but read that this one will not ship with a Unity Pro trial.. that sucks.. I hope I'll be able to use the Free Unity version to make games for the new Oculus rift version.

Yeah, I'm a bit dissapointed about that too.
I was really looking forward to developing in Unity. I hope Unity will make some kind of offer or campaign when DK2 ships.
  • i'm just going to drop 20 dollars and cancel subscription on Unreal engine 4 and use that instead, don't think I'll use unity for anything anytime soon.

How much is the unreal engine, and is a big change to code/use compared to Unity?
I wonder if it'll be possible to migrate existing game source over to unreal from unity?
  • No, you cant migrate the code, well you can probably but they use different languages so it will be a lot of work. Also don't forget that Unity also has subscription and new Unity 5 is coming out soon.

I really hope Unity5 will make OVR-package work in free version also, we´ll see.

I wonder when Unity 5 is coming?
  • Yeah, that was disappointing. I decided to go with UE4 instead and I feel like I made the right decision. The learning curve does not seem to be as steep as I was originally expecting.

Previously I would have said it's low on the Unity devs priority list, but now that the Rift is going 'mainstream' (FB acquisition) it may have moved higher up the list.

    Fingers crossed!

It would be really nice if Unity 5 free had Oculus support.

None of the guys I'm working with have a lot of the for the project, so an option that isn't time-limited would help a lot.
