Oculus and MHL

I got an MHL adapter with USB OTG for my Galaxy Note 3. I was hoping that I would be able to display what's on my phone to the Oculus to develop an Android app for it, but when I plug the Oculus into the adapter, the light on the Oculus repeatedly flashes blue and orange and nothing is displayed. What does this mean? Does the Oculus work with MHL?

Other facts:
Plugging the USB cable from the Oculus into my phone with OTG and the HDMI cable into the computer lets the Oculus act as a second monitor for the computer. But HDMI into the phone and USB into the computer makes the light flash with no image.
