Oculus compatible with ZED Stereo Camera ?
Hi,
I've been testing out the Oculus DK2 for some time now, amazing device ! I struggle to find a solution to remotely stream realtime high quality 3D video to the Oculus. My current solution is the Dual GoPro 3D Rig with two Hero 3+ Black Gopros, but the non-synchronized click-iris keep messing up my eyes up . In addition to this I have to muck about with the HDMIs and some cumbersome setup to create a side by side 1080p stream for the Oculus, which is not ideal for FPV such as multicopter use.
Looking for a fairly compact workaround, I came across this stereo camera which seems adapted and promising http://zed.stereolabs.com/ . But I haven't found any feedback yet !
Looks as though they only take pre-orders for now, did anyone have a chance to test the Zed yet ? They announce 2x1080p sensors, is it potentially compatible with the Oculus ?
Thanks,
Alex

- mediavrProtegeWell the specs say the field of view is 110 degrees D (diagonal) which is like Oculus coverage but it is not clear whether it is fisheye or rectilinear. The illustration shows square rectilinear looking coverage- square format is effectively less coverage than a regular rectangular sensor. The depth map quality looks good and the range is good. The camera is very compact so you could mount two Gopros side by side underneath the Zed camera with just a small amount of parallax-- handy for some concepts.
- Alex2015Honored GuestI would like to use the Zed instead of the two Gopros I have for visualization only so I don't think I will be using the depth maps, though they do seem very precise and authentic in their video. Think I'll try it out when it's released, I keep you posted.
