Oculus Dimensions, Galaxy S4 1080p display
I haven't received my dev kit yet, and expect it to be a while, im in the 60,000s for order number. But I wanted to get started on my 1080p upgrade project. I was wondering if the dimensions of the Rift are documented so I can 3D print a mount to house the 1080p display from a Galaxy S4.
I plan on developing an Xilinx FPGA load that will take the DVI input and output to the 1080p Display of the Galaxy S4. It is a 5" display, and the mount would need to accommodate the change in size.
Even some rough dimensions would get me started.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

- ZotharExplorerActually it's looking like the display from the HTC butterfly is the cost effective way to go.
- InscothenExplorer5" is too small. try 5.5" like the optimus pro g's LG 1080p panel. Or maybe wait for the Galaxy Note 3's 5.7" 1080p screen.
- ZotharExplorerI'll do a search on replacement display's for those. I'm not dead set on one yet anyhow, either way there is little to no documentation on the display interfaces for these devices, i'll have to find a deal on the full device to sniff out the communications to the controller with a logic analyzer, and try to replicate that with an FPGA. If it's too costly im just going to look into streaming 1080p via USB OTG to the samsung galaxy s4 and drop that in with different lenses...
- ganzuulHonored GuestWhen I looked into this last month I discovered that the content usually renders at 30FPS on these mobile devices but the panels in them actually do provide 60Hz. When it came to finding out if the drivers actually support 60FPS I soon aborted because of frustration with documentation that was so hard to find.

There are actual 3D models of the Rift located in another thread somewhere. You could extract the dimensions from that. - ZotharExplorerThat would be perfect. Ill do a search for the model files. Thanks
- CgpnzHonored GuestBefore you consider s4, get a test cable from etradesupply.com and realise what you are dealing with.
This connector (0.4mm tab spacing) is what is going to be on all small screens for HMD applications.
We will have to wait for someone to make a connector breakout board. - blito3Honored Guestif you can get hold of a 3d display that small.....and have the oculus visuals cross each other in the vertical and horizontal thus increasing the center eye view. even though the 2 images overlap....one cant be seen by the other.
- peter01xxHonored Guesti creat i oculus rift FUTURE prototye 1600P version, and one 4k VERSION without head tracking .and the edege of screnn is not blur ,it is very clear.so by far I can tell u it is a threat . BUT what bother m it is the softerware drivr was independent developed , so hard to modify and rewrite. and this thing need TONE' S of game developer support .and in very near day SONY and OLYMPUS r developing their own headset .so my conclusion is hard to say
but I will enjoy my headset for a while step ahead everybody 3-4years play vr game - peter01xxHonored Guestso 5' was too small because the distanc between your eyes r bigger so 1600P was best. NOW 1600P screen is not very expensive
