Oculus DK2 Accessory USB Port

Is there a purpose for the USB port on the front of the DK2 HMD? I've tried plugging an Arduino into it but it doesn't even power up. I measured the voltage and it was only 2V regardless of whether the Rift screen was turned on or not. If it can't even run an Arduino with a few LEDs, what is the purpose of the port? Is my Rift just dodgy or was that intended?

    There's an additional power adapter included in the DK2 package that plugs into the same little box as the IR camera (the one attached to the thick wire that goes to the DK2). You'll need to hook that up in order to power a device off of the headset's port. Check the manual booklet for more details (Step 6, "Connect Power to the Cable Connector Box (optional)", page 8).
