Oculus Home automatic shutdown (or not launching at all)

I use Rift with an high-end laptop. The issue is that when I exit an Rift application, Oculus Home is still sitting in memory and consuming graphic card power and renders to Rift. As the results the notebook fun runs on full power and the graphic card consumes 100W instead of 10W. This is annoying. Is there any way how to automatically shut down the Oculus Home when it is not necessary (or preferably not to launch it at all and use only the Rift Drivers) ?

  • It's sad that Oculus hasn't acknowledged what (if anything) they are going to do about this.  Having to run a ~700MB resource intensive Unity application on the side all the time any program uses the rift functionality is lunacy.  Especially as the focus should be on efficient VR.

They have automatically made their drivers and any of our applications indirectly tied to Unity by doing this.  It worked as it should in the previous 0.8 drivers.  Their store experience should be a separate thing from their driver.

Next time I plug in my Xbox 360 gamepad I should probably brace to expect the windows store to open with an XBox one placed in my shopping cart automatically I suppose :/

If I buy a graphic card, I will feel extremely disappointed when any start-up of the graphic card will activate some graphic-card manufacturer advertising application ... I need Oculus Rift drivers, not a new OS (the whole Oculus Home focus management is de-facto a replacement for Win32 API) nor forced run on unvented game advertising application in the background. We use Rift for serious work (molecular visualisation, interpreting data from X-ray diffraction) and this whole Oculus Home thing is annoying. I hope Rift people will make some professional Rift version with all this add on off and additional useful functions in the drivers (like NVidia Quadro graphic cards versus GeForce ) ...

  • It closes when my computer runs oculus
