Oculus Home running unwanted on startup and other times etc
To give a bit more prominence and a summary to this issue that still hasn't really been addressed officially. Currently Oculus home wants to run and take over all the time. I think Oculus really needs to rethink how this all works and I am surprised they made such a big change with little feedback under the covers between 0.8 and 1.3.
1) When I start my computer Oculus home launches without being asked for and there is no settings option to turn that off. This seemed to go away when I updated to the latest nvidia driver but it is back again today.
2) Oculus Home when running uses 485MB up to nearly 700MB of RAM. I don't want this happening when I am running games or applications and not using it. It should be providing a driver service in that case and that's all.
3) Oculus Home has non standard Windows application behaviour from hooking the mouse and other focus grabbing behaviour that should be left up to the specific application but guided by best practice guides, Oculus store submission requirements that can be mediated in fringe cases, and good sample applications. If this isn't changed then I suspect developers and even some industrious users to start hacking around this - I certainly would.
4) Running non-Oculus store applications requires changing a setting. If I run a game outside of steam for example I don't have to ask steam's permission, and also from what I understand this isn't an issue on Vive or other VR headsets. A PC is not iOS or some other closed platform so please respect that.
5) Oculus Home gets in the way of developer iterative workflows.
Again please do understand that I and others I have discussed this with think Oculus home is great, and having your own curated store is too, but forcing such a 'lock in' is bound to backfire in the vocal PC gaming space - which is your current market.
I hope this can be resolved as really everything else is very cool!

- thewhiteambitAdventurer++ from me. it is specially strange if home starts with sound, while you do other things
- ScawenHeroic ExplorerGood post. With urgency Oculus should add:
- a setting to not start any Oculus software when the PC starts
- an "exit" option to switch off all Oculus background services
There is a trust problem when you do not allow your software to be switched off. - AnonymousI agree with this request. To start the Oculus Home with every application iz a crazy "manager" dission with totally annoying result. We work on a comarcial non/game project ant this anoing dirvers behavior will probabaly force us to use another HMD than Rift ... To remove the DK2 warning will be useful as well ...
- Hyver89Honored GuestHow Can I watch MY videos 360? Because I am allways in Oculus home/store. And With Oculus player it's only in theather screen...Not for 360 videos. Can you Help me?
I can't watch my video in VR Player or Live View Rift because the oculus home allways in my headset when I put my headset on my head. - boblaublawHonored GuestAgreed, this is preposterous. It's like they've never heard of the system tray.
Why can't we opt out of this behavior?
