Oculus Rift 3d depth fix
I noticed that playing half life 2 along with everything else would create a warped depth of field which always bugged me. So I played around with the Nvidia control panel and remembered that the VorpX drivers recommended a resolution of
1280 x 1024. After I enabled this along with override scaling and force GPU scaling brings a dramatic improvement to the 3D. Namely COMPLETELY CORRECTING THE WARP! You can set the IN GAME RESOLUTION to 1600 x 1024 for the least amount of screen tearing and best depths with the Nvidia control panel's resolution set to 1280 x 1024. My god the difference this made to my rift. I thought I'd have to wait for a full retail versions release for this amazing next level experience! Hope this helps.
Instructions:
1. Go to Nvidia Control panel.
2. Under Display select "Adjust desktop size and position."
3.Then select "Rift DK" under the "Select the display you would like to change."
4. Under scaling select Full-screen.
5. Next under "Perform scaling on:" select "GPU"
6. Make sure to check "Override the scaling mode set by games and programs."
7. Finally under "Resolution" select 1280 x 1024. Leave refresh rate at 60 if not already set.
Note* only tested on nvidia gpu. Could work with amd
The 3d depth on every rift demo and compatible game I tried feel completely accurate. I wish i knew sooner, man was I missing out!!!!
p.s. I'm not sure if it's just me or if the rift's FOV feels bigger with these settings too.

- ralfalHonored GuestThe reason why these resolutions are recommended for vorpX is that stereo drivers have to correct the aspect ratio of the originally rendered image, which in case of vorpX is easier for 5:4/4:3 resolutions. Since native Rift programs do not have to do any aspect ratio correction, theoretically there should be no positive effect, at least in this regard.
It's always possible though that this has some positive side effects which also apply to native apps, of course. - cyberealityGrand ChampionI don't understand how this would solve anything. Granted I have not tried it, but it doesn't make any sense to me. All it sounds like is that the aspect ratio will be wrong and the image would probably be strangely distorted.
Was the problem only on HL2? Have you tried Tuscany or any Unity demos? - CatKingLeoHonored GuestIt could just be correcting for my IPD but wow it's a huge difference :D. Anyone willing to try it out?
