oculus rift s not working with laptop connection

I have tried 4 days to connect my Rift S to my laptop that has no DisplayPort/mini displayport connection. It states it might need a HDMI to DisplayPort connection. I have ordered that part to connect the rift to my computer and it comes up with a signal at first then disconnects. I would like to know what else can I do to connect my computer. all my systems are up to date. HELP ASAP!!!
