PrioVR Kickstarter Relaunch (Funded!!!)
Last August we tried launching the Kickstarter but didn't get to our funding goal. We didn't stop working on the project and have now relaunched showing more advanced prototypes of the PrioVR system and more interactive demos.

Changes from last time:
You can see the top of my head in the video for like 3-4 frames around 1:38 in the video. :p

Changes from last time:
- Advanced in-house prototypes being used for videos instead of existing 3-Space Sensors
- No wired only option

- ApprovedAnonymousAwesome video! Very professional.
I saw a few glimpses of fine hand control starting at 3:13. I'd love to see more, if possible. For example reaching, grabbing, holding, manipulating, moving, and placing objects.
Thanks - DieKatzchenHonored GuestI like it. Is it possible to leave some sensors out of the sensor chain? For instance, if I had a Myo could I leave off the hand tracking and let the Myo do that instead?
- RoadKillGrillExplorerYa you should be able to. For the Oculus mode we disable the head sensor and use the Oculus tracker. This way you don't need to wear two head bands.
3 of our team members are out in Austin, Texas this weekend at SXSW demoing the PrioVR advanced prototypes. If you are in the area feel free to stop by the expo is free.
Edit: Our video from the CDVR meetup is now live - saviorntProtegeI was at the Cinci/Dayton meetup and got to experience the PrioVR first hand. Since I'm a little bit of a cynic / pessimist, let's give the list:
- The IK for their demo needs work (Ok, I realize these are hardware guys, not software guys)
- The demo unit that I used was, well, a little bit used. But, ok, it IS not only a prototype, but I'm sure it has been getting pretty roughed up at these demos
- If you have spinal osteoporosis like I do, make sure to take your meds before playing
I guess for the good stuff:
- It's $300
- It's $300
- It's $300
- Full range body motion capture
- Comes with a motion capture studio software package
- Can output .bvh mocap files, and from the website, they say it will also be able to output to Unity's Mechanim (I would like confirmation on that though).
- Did I mention it's $300? Any mocap suit that is equivalent will cost you at LEAST $4000 and up. Even the Kinect for PC is $250, which, to use for a mocap setup it is extremely limited to what you can do with it (ie: you need to be in front of the damn things).
My only real question is, how durable can we expect them to be (namely the PrioVR Pro - this only has additional sensors, not a better / more durable / rugged design)? For example, if I'm using this to do mocap while rock climbing and fall (the ground is rocks.. to give you incentive not to fall), how would the suit stand up to those types of conditions?
For some other thoughts, the entire meetup I was in design/concept mode, and after using this (prioVR), I can imagine using this for athletic simulations (kendo, boxing, karate, etc..), I'm not much of an FPS'er.. I'll let those guys comment on it for that genre.
Ah, and yea, I plan on backing the KickStarter this payday for the PrioVR Pro setup 8-) - RoadKillGrillExplorer@saviornt thanks for your feedback.
The demos are constantly being updated and tweaked, the current demo has no IK. It is based purely off of the forward kinematics from the sensor data. In the future IK will likely be added to retarget the in game character model better to the player.
We have retired those suits and have a new revision that we have used at SXSW, and will be using at GDC. It has different connectors and wiring that we are evaluating. The new connectors are more durable and less likely to become loose like the CES suits.
Speaking of SXSW here is the update video:
This week a large portion of the PrioVR development team will be at GDC to show off the latest prototype and answer your questions live. I will also be around :P - RoadKillGrillExplorerWell we are back from our long tour of trips that started with CDVR and ended with GDC. We got to meet a bunch of our backers and may have picked up a few more along the way.
Here is a short video from GDC, we also had a few minutes to run over the the Virtuix Omni booth and try it out. With some adjustment I think we can get it to work.
Finally tomorrow Thursday, March 27th at 12pm Eastern Time we will be having a Reddit AMA if you have any questions you want us to answer. - BoffExplorerAfter weeks of umming and ahhhing I've finally backed the kickstarter (for a Pro no less!).
Reading through the AMA on Reddit helped make the decision easier. Really looking forward to seeing where this goes in future and hope you can deliver on your vision!
Best of luck with everything! - RoadKillGrillExplorerThanks!!
Here is our final Kickstarter video. From now on video updates will be a bit less frequent :p
Again, thank you to all our backers and supporters who have helped us make PrioVR a reality. - ApprovedAnonymousCool video! Keep 'em coming ;)
- RoadKillGrillExplorerPrioVR's Kickstarter campaign is complete!! Thank you to all our supporters and backers.
We raised $322,103 blowing way past our goal!
I will continue to update this thread as we continue getting PrioVR into production.
