Resolution Limitation ?

Hey guys, I had a quick question. Is the limitation of the resolution in the control box or the screen itself? If it's the screen itself, couldn't we just replace the screen with a higher resolution screen and be done with it?

Also, before I start actually tinkering with the DK1. We're not going to be able to send the DK1 back to Oculus and get a discount on the DK2 when it comes out right? Seems like a stupid question, but you never know companies these days lol

  • The Rift's display panel is 1280x800. Yes you can install higher resolution screen, but it presents a number of problems, and it's not "plug and play" either.
  • Trust me, anyone who has messed with this thing knows it's not plug and play :P Unless of course you're talking about the screen and in that case I say :o

    But that's good to know.
  • The current developer kit has a native resolution of 1280x800. It can actually accept up to 1920x1200 but then it down-samples internally to the native resolution (but some people think it looks better). Unless you are an electronic prodigy, you probably won't have much luck replacing the screen yourself. Even if you got it to work, the software may not support strange DIY mods (for example, the distortion parameters or FOV may be off, etc.). Not recommended.
