Since this thread was started, the 0.7 Runtime was released which includes Direct Driver Mode. This mode is more stable and reliable than the previous Direct Mode and is the preferred method for using the Rift. The main issue now is that only select graphics cards are fully supported. People with old GPUs or Optimus laptops are usually the ones with the issues. Sadly this is a hardware problem and likely can't be fixed with a software patch. I'm very sorry.
