Rift Exclusives and Steam Greenlight

I am wondering if anyone has some experience with Greenlight and might be able to offer some thoughts. Is a Rift exclusive title viable on Greenlight in the near term, or are we best off waiting for the consumer release to see how Valve decides to handle exclusives?

This touches on the challenge of targeting for an unreleased platform. I'd like to think the Rift community, at the moment, isn't only developers and enthusiasts, but everyone who's anticipating the commercial release. That may be a little optimistic though. I don't know if there is a wide enough audience to make a go of Greenlight yet. My thinking on crowd-funding an exclusive is similar, but I'm very encouraged by VirtuaView's Indiegogo :-).

Since Greenlight is based on the community, a Rift exclusive is indeed potentially viable. You have to generate the desire for it within the Greenlight community, though, so things could be a bit dicey out the gate. I've been toying with the idea of doing Greenlight for a project release once the release date of the consumer model is locked down.

I think that's probably the best approach. I'm getting a little ahead of myself thinking about Greenlight this early on. But it looks like I'm not alone in having thought about it :-). Who knows, maybe Greenlight won't be the best avenue for a small project like mine.

I'll probably still give it a shot at some point. It's not a massive risk at $100, so long as I put the effort into it.
