Screen Brightness Issue
Hey, I have been trying to figure out exactly what has been causing a brightness issue with the rift. I noticed in dark areas in demos and scenes that I have been building in unity that the right eye is always darker. I decided to see exactly what was going on. I googled around and noticed other people complaining about the same issue, but the issue was never resolved nor pinpointed. One person mentioned that it may be an issue with the note screen being overclocked to 75hz. The same problem was apparent when I switched the rift from 75hz to 60hz, so I don't believe that it has to to with the overclock. I took a printscreen and compared the values which were exactly the same. So the issue isn't gameside. I displayed a flat value of 5,5,5 across the entire screen. What I noticed was a gradient from left to right in brightness.

This is a boosted picture from my iphone to illustrate the issue. Ignore the reflection, it's a smooth gradient.
I'm not exactly sure what's going on here, but the issue is occurring somewhere between the final image render and the pixels. I get the feeling it has something to do with the driver board because it's dimming the same direction as the raster scan, but I don't know. I would like to know if this could be fixed via a firmware update. I suppose a slight graduated tone-map could be used to combat this problem, but that would be a band-aid to the problem.
Hope this helps guys!

- FallenPlanetExplorerHmm, I noticed the exact same thing last night while testing a demo im working on. I ended up removing all my post processing from each camera, convinced that it would solve the issue, but the problems still there.
Will keep a close eye on this thread as at the moment, I have no ideas. - VavenynHonored GuestI had an issue with my unity demo today that one eye was darker then the other, this was caused when i enabled the HDR option in the OVRCameraController, that is, i only enabled it for left eye camera and forgot about the HDR option for the right eye

technically 75Hz isnt an overclock for the O-led as the are theoretically able to refresh at thousands of Hertz.
Whiether the actual controller is being overclocked is another question though. - FallenPlanetExplorerIs no one else having this problem? Im finding its making it hard for me to focus when i go into a dark scene.
- TWhiteExplorerI'm under the impression that everyone is having this issue right now, people are just less perceptive to finer details. Not everyone will notice the same things as you and me.
What is this issue exactly? I had asked people to try underclocking their screen to stock 60hz and most of them said it resolved the problem. Why it doesn't for you is beyond me. But I am confident this IS a screen related issue. - KevinComerfordHonored GuestOdd, changing the screen to 60hz seemed to have no effect for me. I feel like we need a bigger data set. Can anyone else display a dim flat gray on their screen and say what they see?
- k8bitHonored GuestParticulary apparent in this project, I found:

I raised the brightness and contrast in Nvidia control panel to fix it in games like dreadhalls but this seems like a band-aid fix as well. No difference in 60hz or 75hz.
Very interested in getting this resolved, will also be monitoring this thread ^^ - sidhu663Honored Guest@opamp The controller is indeed overclocked. One of the issues with it that is more common is the banding that appeared in the left eye for a bit which goes away if you cycle to 60Hz and back to 75Hz. It's pretty much just a note 3 display with very little modification from what I hear hence the issues with the overclocking
- PuckStarHonored Guesti have the problem as well. i notice it a lot in Riftmax.
