12 years agoShould I buy an Xbox controller?
I'm just prepping for the arrival of my DK2, (it's processing, so should be soon).
So I've noticed that a lot of the demos and games make use of an Xbox controller as the standard controller. But I don't recall seeing any mention anywhere of the PS3 controllers. I own 2 PS3 controllers, can I use these with Motionjoy to replace the Xbox controllers or is it not that simple?
And if I have to buy an Xbox controller, can I pick an Xbox One controller or does it have to be an Xbox 360? Because I'm browsing the Futureshop site here in Canada and the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers both sell for the same price, $60. So I'd rather get the latest model.
thanks,

- JAAdventurerHonored GuestWith the right drivers you should be able to use the Xbox One controller. Do note though that you'll have to keep the Xbox One controller plugged into a USB port, instead of having it wireless using an adapter that comes with the Xbox 360 controller packaged for PC.
- ZenSoturiHonored GuestMotionjoy can emulate xbox controller, so you can use PS3 as xbox360 controller in games. I have used my PS3 controller on this way without problems.

Perfect, thanks for replying. - lmaceleightonHonored GuestYou don't NEED to use a Xbox controller, almost ANY controller is just as good. Weather you like the Xbox controller or not has mostly to do with button placement, as ALL the parts are not anything better than most of the comparable game controllers out there, such as Playstation Controllers. I use PS2 Controllers with a 3 Dollar adapter that will handle 2 PS2 controllers(or PS1). Also there is a Xbox Controller emulator out there that will make almost any game controller for PC will act as if it was an Xbox controller, as well as it will emulate other game controllers too, as well as wheels, and other game-pads.

- cyberealityGrand ChampionThe Xbox360 controller will have the best compatibility and support. I prefer wired since no batteries or nonsense.
- nuclearExplorerI use a logitech F310 gamepad, which has a switch underneath that can make it work exactly as an xbox360 controller (XInput mode), or as a standard generic HID gamepad (DirectInput mode). It works perfectly with everything I tried so far, and it feels really great.

What effect does this have in-game? - MoeCappProtegeThe 360 controller is fantastic. I don't think I have played a single game adapted for the Rift yet that didn't support it. Unity demos all seem to support it by default. The force feedback is great for Rift enabled games (HL2). It's comfortable, precise, inexpensive, and feels solidly built. It makes perfect sense to me why Oculus acquired the team that designed it.
Until dedicated VR controllers finally start to ship, the Xbox controller will continue to get plenty of use on my rig, and probably still after that for some applications.
I don't think you can go wrong having one around. - FredzExplorerI would also say to go with a XBox 360 Controller, but I've been a bit annoyed with wires recently from the DK2, headphones, gamepad and Razer Hydra. I don't know what the experience of people owning the wireless version is, but I guess less wires should be better.
