The 360 controller is fantastic. I don't think I have played a single game adapted for the Rift yet that didn't support it. Unity demos all seem to support it by default. The force feedback is great for Rift enabled games (HL2). It's comfortable, precise, inexpensive, and feels solidly built. It makes perfect sense to me why Oculus acquired the team that designed it.
Until dedicated VR controllers finally start to ship, the Xbox controller will continue to get plenty of use on my rig, and probably still after that for some applications.
I don't think you can go wrong having one around.
