Sixence Kickstarter 12 September

http://sixense.com/wireless

This new concept looks really good and I think the idea of the stems from the hand controllers being reusable in other devices is a great idea. This gives it a lot more flexability and a lot of scope for 3rd parties to produce great peripherals. My money is ready and waiting!

The image of the figure in the picture is interesting. it shows tracking for head feet and hands. Personally I hope that the oculus will take care of the head positional tracking so I can use one of the STEMs for upper body tracking.

  • I was gonna back it until I saw this "By delivering STEM System developer kits to Kickstarter backers first, we will be able to make a much better consumer product than we could on our own."

Developer's kit, again? Hopefully they'll have tiers that let's me back them up by getting the costumer product (of course at a later date then the DK.) With the Omni I was promised a finished product so I backed it, while the Oculus is still only a DK product so I'm not getting it yet, same reasoning will apply to Sixense's Kickstarter.

You don't have to back at the level of getting a dev kit to back the project, they should have lesser tiers. I think, like Oculus, Sixense wants there to be some actual games being developed for the device before they launch a consumer product.

I'll back Sixense the same way I'm backing Oculus, by buying the Costumer version :D

If I want a DK controller I'll get the Razer Hydra.

P.S. Way too poor to throw money out at lesser tier that'll get me a T-shirt. VR is killing my bank account.
  • How much do you guys estimate that the developer kit (or the consumer version even) will cost? I can't see myself paying more than $100, although since the Hydra retails for that much - I'm guessing it will be much more?
  • I'm guessing it'll vary. Maybe it'll be in sets like this:
    1 base + 1 STEM = Very cheap
    1 Base + 1 controller + 1 STEM = cheap
    1 base + 2 controllers + 2 STEMs = average
    1 base + 2 Controllers + 5 STEMs = Too much for me

    Etc...

So you'll decide how much you can spend.
  • I wonder if Omni will lower its price (option w/o tracking) or include stems?

OculusVR should make an official statement about the STEM. I would like to know what kind of positioning tracking the consumer version of the rift will have. If Oculus consider that the STEM will be a good compatible addition to their product I will participate to the kickstarter without hesitation.
