Sleeker anatomical design
The design of the headset itself is way to large and clumsy. You need to have the headset itself as almost an extension of the person themselves, not a separate object.
Look at these photos and tell me if it looks like it belongs on your head?

The final image is getting closer to the design it needs to be.

- ftarnogolExpert ProtegeHey Havoc,
you are comparing apples to cheesburgers.
The 3 Rift photos are concepts/prototypes. The 3rd one is from a final product. The Rift Prototypes in no way reflect the final looks of V1.
Sony's headset is not intended for immersion, reason why Sony didn't have to cram big optics or a frame that can isolate you from the outside world.
Even in its final configuration, the Rift may not even remotely look as sleek as Sony's HMD.
Agreed that it would be extremely beneficial to have an HMD with an organic design, so let's see what OVR has in store. - raidho36ExplorerI am to decree here that as long as it doesn't look disturbing (having swastikas on it, look like a phallus, etc.) it is utterly irrelevant what it looks like. You can't see it while you wearing it, you wouldn't care what it look like. In regard of "looking stupid", having box strapped to your head is nowhere more stupid than having loudspeakers strapped to your head, or even something as simple as having a bag strapped to your back. Nobody thinks you look like an idiot for wearing these, why must they think of you that way for wearing Rift?

- cerebralHonored GuestHey i have a great idea.
Oculus VR if you are familiar with Luigi Colani.
Hire him for product design, he is the greatest product designer in the world and not only the most moderate. :D
But, seriously, he has done awesome organic designs of ships, futuristic planes, cars........
He is a great mind.
Watch his videos. They are really nice. What a bright and nice mind.
You find only one Colani. - havoc51413Honored Guest

Im not referencing the aesthetics, I mean it needs to naturally fit the skull and immerse the eyes which, I believe, only an anatomical design would do. - havoc51413Honored Guest

Thank you for the clarification. Do you know of any other models or prototypes that go for complete immersion? Some audio AND visual immersion sets would be nice, if you happen to know of any. - cerebralHonored GuestHey Havoc,
everybody here can confirm you that the Oculus Rift right now is the State of the Art!
Valve will release also a VR headset, but again prototypes and they very much copy each other because of the collaboration they do. - ftarnogolExpert Protege

Social conventions ;) - raidho36ExplorerInner side of the Rift is already designed very anatomically, to fit the skull optimally. So I just instantly assumed you're talking about the external hull casing look.
As for built-in headphones, that's a solid and very big NO-NO. For so many reasons. Just buy a headphones. - cerebralHonored Guest
