Sony's Morpheus prototype will be offered to developers
http://uk.ign.com/articles/2014/03/19/gdc-sony-reveals-project-morpheus-playstation-4-vr-headset
Sony are following Oculus lead by making prototypes available to developers. I imagine this will lead to a scramble and it will not just be developers. I imagine that's the reason why Crystal Cove will need to be close to perfect to the consumer version, because everybody will want one, not just us developers.

- trybiusHonored GuestSony will only release it to licensed developers, so there won't be a "public" scramble at all.
- LaneHonored GuestLooks huge.
- RedAndBlueHonored GuestWhat's with the crest thing up top?
I know it's probably a PS Move thing, but...
*edit - the initial photos made it look a little goofy from the side. Now that I've seen it in action it's pretty. - BurnsHonored GuestIf AAA-studios are going to make games for VR, Oculus AND Sony could benefit from it, because the Morpheus and the Oculus somehow seem to work similar. Hopefully they won't make all these VR-titles exclusive for the PS4. Anyway, I am really happy that another company jumped on the VR-train. This will help to make VR take off in a big way. :)
- herdsHonored GuestI think that is the main reason the sony vr announcement is good news for oculus. Studios will design their games with so for cross platform the pc will have more chance of vr support, lets just hope they don't tag on a premium for them.

Hard to know just how open they will be, they have been allot more friendly to indies in the past few years but traditionally dev kits especially pre release hardware has been exclusive to high end publishers."Burns" wrote:

Most of the studios are seeing that the pc market is a good one to be in. Console games have a big second hand market that starts eroding sales after a certain saturation point. PC's versions tend not to participate in second hand markets as much. Also modding is huge and consoles are way too restrictive to allow that sort of thing, this also leads to lingering pc sales.
I don't own a latest gen system and don't plan to get one, my ps3 is a blu ray / netflix player not a gaming machine any more. I would much rather spend $400 on a medium grade pc and attach it to my home theatre and I'm not the only one. - flawExplorerseen quite a bit or promo stuff for the Morpheus out there lately.
it looks pretty cool. i was impressed. - HiThere_SuperstarThe dual is on : Free blur prototype VS Blur free prototype !
- RedAndBlueHonored GuestUpon further examination, the crest is a combo sweat collector/ zit producer.
- mrnitroHonored Guest90 deg. fov.... end of deal for me....
