Source Engine: How to integrate Rift Support?
Hi everyone,
as Valve has successfully integrated Rift support für Team Fortress 2, I wonder if this feature will be integrated into the Source SDK?
Dear Esther would be THE perfect showcase for VR in my option and Rift support should be easy to integrate: There is nearly no interaction with the world, the controls are very limited and simple, it's unbelievable beautiful and atmospheric, very slow paced, needs few resources, is cheap, relatively short and there is no in-game HUD at all.

So will the Source SDK updated with Rift support in the next weeks?

Well, that would be ideal. Let's stay hopeful.
I found a similar project a while ago that looks to be a perfect alternative (considering it works) if official Source SDK Rift support is late to the table. I believe this is simply to play games (source or otherwise). For VR creation with Source there seems to be no saviour until official support. Anyone know when that will happen?

Edit: Included the link this time. O.o - lazydodoHonored Guestthe vireo injection driver supports dear esther you could give that a whirl, there's a forum on it on mtbs3d.
- spyroExpert ProtegeSo that means, that valve will not reintegrate the code from TF2 into the SDK so that modders could use it? :(
spyro - zinoHonored GuestIt does not mean that. It only means that you could try the 3rd party driver for now, because we don't know what Valve will do; they aren't telling. And even if they where telling we wouldn't trust them 'cause Valve Time.
Now if Valve releases the updates to the SDK then users of it (like Dear Esther) would also need to be updated to support Rift by their authors. - cyberealityGrand ChampionI agree that Dear Esther would be a perfect game to play on the Rift.
- spyroExpert ProtegeHmm, I see. Thanks for the tip with Vireo, I will try that.
spyro - Boone_xHonored GuestI spent some time trying to integrate native rift warping etc into my half-life 2 mod with no luck, the SDK doesn't appear to have enough low level hooks to properly render for the rift (I can do SBS etc). I really hope valve reintegrates the TF2 rift implementation into the sdk, but for the moment vireio is working well enough.

GeekMaster added a C coding
Might help with low level coding. If you have not already checked that out.
