Switching between two of the positional trackers

Hi there, first time posting to the forum.
I'm working on a VR experience with the Rift and the idea is to have a few short experiences in one story.
My question is would it be possible to hook up a second positional tracking camera to the same computer and use a splitter of some description to send the second one to the rift so that at the press of a button the positional tracker being used will switch between the two. This would allow us to minimize the gap between the two experiences and help us to keep the immersion. Otherwise we will simply have to set up another rift and switch the two out on the laptop end.
Cheers,
Chris :D

  • each headset is synced to the camera it ships with so this wont work
  • I thought you 'Sync' then with the 'Sync' cable, and when there is problems, you use the other 'Sync' port on the headset. So I am assuming this is how it is done. Besides all that i think it is possible. You still shouldn't do it. Wait until CV1 comes out, an see if the tracking area is large enough then, as it is supposed to be better tracking in a larger area.

  • MikeF is correct. The camera and headset are calibrated together at the factory, and must be used as a pair. Trying to switch around different cameras will not work at all.

I'm also not sure that multiple cameras are even what the OP needs. I think just having multiple scenes in the same app would fulfill this purpose.

It sounds like something I did. I had one computer with dk2 running keyboard / Novint Falcon for HL2 and racing wheel for Assetto Corsa. When a person decided what game they wanted to try, I had to move the dk2 camera because the controls were set up along the desk.

Cheers guys, the idea is that we are planning to use the Oculus with different pieces of physical equipment, for the player to use, so like the player does a bit on an exercise bike and then moves on to a different stage, we were hoping to do this without removing the headset if possible to keep the player in the world a little bit more to a small degree.
Thanks for the responses guys, I had no idea that the two were paired specifically.
  • OK, now I think I understand what you are asking, but I don't think it's supported.
