Thoughts on 360 Heros 360 S3D Cameras

Hi All,

I'm looking to purchase a 360 S3D camera. I've been looking at the 360 Heros gear and it seems like a good rig to for a novice like me. Has anyone used their systems? I'm specifically wondering if I should purchase the 12 camera spherical rig or the 14 camera horizon rig? Any practical recommendations on whether the horizon emphasis is better than the spherical emphasis? Is one better for certain shooting situations? Is one easier to stitch than other?

I'd love to hear any first hand accounts from people who have used it.

If you are a novice then working with fewer cameras would be easier. I would recommended the iZugar Z6X3D rig. It also produces fewer seams. http://www.izugar.com/#products

You want to make sure that when recording stereo that the camera rig stays level, the L&R camera are horizontal to each other. Watching a stereo movie in the theater with you leaned sideways will cause headaches. Same as shooting with the cameras not horizontal to each other. This is impossible to do with the 3DH3Pro12. Stay away from companies that don't understand this.

Panocam3D is another option that uses synced cameras.

  • Thanks. for the info. I've seen the iZugar rig, but was worried that eventually I'd want the higher res that would come from the 14 cam set up. Sounds like that might be a stitching nightmare though.
