Treadle trainer(?) for locomotion input
Today when bicycling to work I had a (I think) wonderful idea: Take this

and connect the integrated motion encoder to the computer to control forward/backward movment. It's compact enough to fit under the desk, can be used while sitting in your favorite chair and as a side effect you're training your legs.

- Shannonb1ExplorerMy 2 cents is just use a set of rudder pedals as they already have the electronics built in.
- JimTHonored GuestI remember being able to steer a tricycle with my feet alone, since you can push (& pull) on the pedals with your feet to turn. Thus you could mount the pedals on a turn-table or to a turning axis to control turning as well as pedaling. That would provide positional control over translation & rate control over turning. I don’t see an easy means of controlling your course (direction of motion w.r.t. your avatar’s body) with this setup.
I’ve tried using rudder pedals on a turn-table but that doesn’t work, because pushing to slide them & pushing to turn them interfere with each other. On the other hand you can apply the up-down motion of the rudder pedals to control turning. Still no obvious means of controlling the course with rudder pedals alone.
