UE4 Paris Apartment demo

Just saw this hit some gaming sites, by Benoit Dereau:

It looks amazing, but unfortunately the download is down - the video doesn't look like it has rift support built in at the moment :(

  • A mix of photorealism with stylized animated characters would look great as a style. It would let the viewer be more forgiving to the quality of lighting in animated parts not matching prebaked lighting of the environment. The lighting information on the skin and cloths of the anime character could come from photoscans with light info capture, it would be a cool style. Like that characters visuals is different than the environment but that's okay, that's because it comes from imaginationland, your brain already knows that the girl doesn't belong here, she is there by magic... VR magic.

For example it would be so cool if the dancing girl in CandyRockStar was brought in here, the audio played by the game was a playlist file (that the user can edit freely), by detecting the beat of the song (like even visualization software do) , the girls dance animation speed was adjusted to bpm. An anime girl dancing in a photorealistic apartment to your songs.
  • Thanks for the reddit link donkaradiablo, didn't think to look there!
  • I wish there was a Tex Murphy game that looked like this. The recent one didn't look so good. A lot of the game is walking around looking at static rooms, VR and this level of realism would be great for that.
