It's a HMD adapter - To be used with any 7" tablet. It has integrated sensors (6DOF gyrometer/accelerometer) for head tracking, extremely low latency (wireless mouse signal) - it does not use the tablet's sensors, in order not to increase the latency during the signal exchange with the computer. It receives the 3D video feed from the computer wirelessly.
You can use Kainy or Splashtop Gamepad THD. A 802.11n or preferably, a 802.11ac connection is needed. With 802.11n a latency of 50-60ms can be achieved. You can also connect directly using a USB cable.
It can be used to play games, watch movies in 3D or simply browse virtual environments (touristic recreations for example).

- kevinm1278ExplorerI'm more concerned about how heavy it will be. The Rift is light and confortable due to the power source and other hardware not being packed into the unit. Just my phone alone weighs quite a bit.
- AttreyuHonored GuestWe estimate that the adapter only will be around or less than 100 grams. Couple that with a 300g tablet and you're around the Rift, more or less (the Rift weighs about 380 grams). So they're in the same ballpark.
I'm not encountering any issues moving my head around tbh, but I understand that you can't take my word for it. The adapter will be sent to a number of 3rd party tech editors and reviewers so you'll be able to have some honest insights. - kevinm1278Explorer

I would love to try one for myself. I'm not a tech editor or professional reviewer but I would give my honest, unfiltered opinion of my experience...
