Im going to get one of these and run some tests. Hopefully this small one will be sufficient, and perhaps two of these in the final design might be enough, but I would rather just one as I am trying not to make it too heavy. :) - lmaceleightonHonored GuestOk so here is what I ordered:
1x - Vibration Motor - ROB-08449 - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8449
1x - Solenoid - 5v (small) - ROB-11015 - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/11015
1x - Force Sensitive Resistor 0.5" - SEN-09375 - https://www.sparkfun.com/products/9375
So I am going to run tests with the small Vibe motor in the trigger itself, in hopes that I can achieve some cool tactile
feedback responses that might give the user some interesting feedback. We already discussed the Solenoid, which is a
great idea and is going to replace the rear standard rumble motor that is there now.
Now one addition that I have come up with is the "Force Sensitive Resistor" pad that I will incase in...something...
and mount it on the back of the gun on the stock itself so you may push against it with your shoulder, and because it is variable it could be great for any number of things all set by the user. I think I will use it for perhaps the 'hold breath
feature a lot of games have, or maybe this will be my backpedal...it cold be lots of things. I am closer to bring you all a small video demo, so stay tuned ;) - cyberealityGrand ChampionGood luck!
- lmaceleightonHonored GuestThanks! I hope to have a video soon, and now that things are in the works for the design patent I can show the prototype just as soon as I get it back together from the latest tinker ;)
- lmaceleightonHonored GuestI have been using the 9 Degrees of Freedom - Sensor Stick SEN-10724 , and while it does work great! it only works great, when it working:O( What I mean is I keep having Magnetometer problems, and while it just may be a batch problem(you know a bad batch), I am starting to wonder if I should go with a different chip. So does anyone have any suggestions? Please keep in mind that the goal is to keep this VRGUN at the lowest price possible without sacrificing too much quality in the IMU.
- lmaceleightonHonored GuestThats ok, Sparkfun is so very awesome! There takin this one back for testing, and there going to test and make that the one they are sending me now is working properly BEFORE they send it to me. These guys are great, and when this gun is done Ill make sure they get some credit for helping make sure it all happened.
- k2kHonored Guesthi imaceleighton, looking forward to seeing your video was wondering how you plan on moving the character do you have something like a ps move nav on the back of the handle if so could I suggest two buttons on the front for quick turning left and right as if moving your mouse and then using your motion control for fine adjustment rather than a rachet like razer hydra.
- lmaceleightonHonored GuestWell for turn left and right , at the moment I do that with yaw, turning left a right with the gun...just point and move in that direction, but that is ONLY for older games not designed for VR. In Unreal 4, in the game that the VR is being designed for( the Gun is a P90 BTW) the weapon model should match the movements of the way you are actually holding the gun with some IK to make the arms move in a 'reasonably' believable way. The VR Firearm also has a 5-way tactile switch reachable on your left thumb( or Right), these will be the only buttons on BOTH sides. The Gun is DESIGNED to be ambidextrous, and will operate as well for either player:O) There is also another analog stick available but it isn't intended for movement, and is operated in a comfortable, yet different than normal way(actually with the back of your pointer and/or middle finger). Also i have tactical style pressure buttons that will allow players to customize where to position those buttons...so things like flashlight, or...well what ever really, i want to make sure that the user can customize it all they want. I even thought about custom orders to have what ever style of VR gun you want(after initial release of the game and THIS gun). There is sooo much work to do, the city of Atlantis has barely begun:O( Sometime at the end of the year, NDA permitting(and time!) I hope we can show some in game specific shots!
Hmmm .....I peak?
Remember this is just a prototype, and not in anything like a finished product, so expect to see the fudged pain and what not of me just creating the shape correctly, but I would love constructive criticism:O) - cyberealityGrand ChampionLooks baaaaaaaad!!!
