What's the best USB extender to use?

The DK2 cables aren't long enough to go from the goggles/camera to our PC with the current set up we're using. We've used some regular USB extenders in the past and they work most of the time but it seems to be a little glitchy. I'm wondering if an "active" USB extender might be better and, if so, is there benefit to using 3.0 over 2.0?
