when will the DK3 be released
would like to know when the DK3 will be released to developers so we can finalize the programs on the set that going to be released to the consumer.
There is no reason to release a DK3. The DK2 is plenty fine for development work towards the target platform (CV1). The only benefits that the CV1 will have over the DK2 is that it will have a higher FOV, better display resolution, higher sensor accuracy, and lower weight. All of the upgrades has no impact on development.
The only reason to do an upgrade would be to check for UI element readability and performance costs, but this can be managed.
I suspect the Oculus "input solution" will be a separate product from the Rift, since selling an input device along with the HMD as the only package would increase costs.. not all people that would get a Rift need an input device and already have their own; ie: HOTAS for the sim people. Of course, Oculus should sell a "package deal" that would include both.
I do believe there should be a developer release for the input device though.
