Windows 8.1

Hi there

I've just checked, and still... no support for windows store applications. Is this even on the roadmap? an ETA or something? I have many people that would love to play the game on the Oculus but I only distribute through the windows store. I'm still wondering why this was not there since the first few months of oculus sdk :?

A game developer choosing to only distribute through the Windows store is a game developer that hasn't thought their distribution strategy through... It's a recipe for failure. I want to say that in much stronger terms, but I'm trying to be polite here.

Consider that Windows 8+ only has an ~11% market share, and many (most?) Windows 8+ users completely ignore the Windows store, and you can see what I'm getting at. You're immediately restricting yourself to a tiny portion of the potential market.

If windows store fails it should be because it is not a viable marketplace, not because of unnecessary technical complications like SDKs that don't work with it.
  • well, coming from someone who choose to develop for Oculus VR which has a market share of... 0.00001% of computers... i think i'll handle perfectly fine my windows store numbers.

Now, the question is about why/when we can get an sdk for windows store apps, not to begin a thread about opinions on windows, microsoft, mac vs pc or statitics. 11% of the market is a huge number. To give you an idea, the whole Mac (all mac os versions!) is less than 9% of the market.

So going back to the subject, because i'm sure more and more will keep just posting their opinion instead of a real answer: windows store sdk?
