Wireless Rift - Yes another one.
So i am currently busy turning my Rift in to a wireless master piece.
All the setup has been done and im currently testing battery life, however there must be a better way then to use batteries.
Currently i need 12 batteries, to run the rift wireless (4 for the Rift, and 8 for the wireless HDMI device).
Does anyone have some advice for me which i can try out to replace the batteries with something else?
Current progress:
Testing battery life on the Wireless HDMI device (Currently running on 8 batteries for 1 hour and 13 minutes (lets see how long they last)).
I highly doubt ill get more then 2/3 hours of battery life on the HDMI device so 8 batteries for 3 hours (estimate) seems a little to steep i think. That is like 5 dollars per session for the HDMI device only (Rift not calculated yet).
Definetly the first thing will be rechargeable batteries, but are there other solutions which i should try out?
Thanks for your time.

- DrSnakeProtegeFirst of all i will post more detailed information later since im typing this on my phone.
about latency i was unable to detect any more latency over a wired setup headtracking is still instantanious. I must say however that i am using this in the same room so far, i have not tested long distances yet.
about batteries i am currently using one power pack with one dc out and one usb out. The dc out goes to the wavi and the usb out goes to the rift dc in. I soldered my own usb to dc cable but these are only a couple of bucks in the store (i was too impatient for the stores to open). This way the rift will be usb powered wich is compatible because usb supplies 5v and the rift requires 5v. It might also be possible to connect the usb power cable to the wavi and take his power but i have not tried that yet (my hydra is currently using that slot). This way you would only need one power pack.
I will post a step by step later on with what i did and will definetly include videos. - apieroniHonored Guest

My name is Alejandro and glad to announce that I'm working in a wireless consumer bridge for the Oculus. I'm estimating 1st proto to be ready by end of October, dev kits for December, So everybody stay tuned. Also want to mention that contacted the business dept. of Oculus VR but have received no answer from them yet. Anyways, this will be an add on with much less power requirements that the version above. I personally don't like the 5 GHz band, it's getting crowed. - ziphnorExpert Protege

Isn't it a bit risky creating something like this for the Rift DK1? I would think it very likely that Oculus would be considering something like this themselves for the consumer rift? - apieroniHonored GuestWell. Thats how entrepeneurship works... oculus rift is not a wireless device.

I didn't mean it in a negative way as such, i was just worried that you might be putting a lot of effort into something that is DK1 specific only to have Oculus release a consumer of DK2 device that is incompatible or perhaps has wireless capability build in. Especially since you are planning a december dev kit release, by which time a DK2/consumer rift might have been announced.
That aside i would love to hear more details about your wireless solutions (having been tangled by my 1-week old rift quite a few times). - whoisonlineExplorerA simple solution would be great .. I hope oculus sort it out soon.

I do not know about them but we sort it out. Have a running prototype and not easy to implement. - apieroniHonored Guest

I'm sure we will be able to upgrade your unit! :) - whoisonlineExplorer

The way the atlas kickstarter guys have it is not bad either, just a good enough laptop in a backpack .. but might try the hdml wireless and usb powered solution perhaps. - apieroniHonored Guest

I'm quite sure you will end having back issues carrying a backpack with a notebook (heat + EMI), what about the PS3/PS4 and XBOX's?
Believe me we are trying to improve it not to knock it down.
