Do you have to uninstall old version of app before installing new one?

I was wondering why after installing a new version of my game (using "adb install -r" and then copying over the obb file), I never saw any changes.  Then I tried uninstalling the app in the library first.  That worked.  So, is it necessary to do that?

  • Yes you should always do an adb uninstall before a new adb install
  • I have to restart the Quest also before it will see the new build.  I've been using the broken uninstall from the onscreen menu, which doesn't seem to do anything, however.  I will try adb uninstall.
  • Is there an adb command to list the packages?  I don't know which version is on there when I go to use adb uninstall...

I use a free app from HeadJack called vrsideload to manage my uninstalls.  I really like it because it's simple to use and often finds dead apps that won't show up in Unknown Sources.  It's available at the bottom of this page, but they will want your email.  https://headjack.io/tutorial/sideload-install-app-apk-oculus-go-quest/

So far, I haven't received any junk emails that i recall.  I might have needed to unsubscribe from something.  It's been a few months.
