Log Controller Pose while app is running

Hello, I'm trying to get controller pose information while an app (VR Desktop) is running.

I have no issues with, for example, plugging the quest to a PC and then using OpenXR to read the controller pose. However, link does not run concurrently while another app is running (ie VR Desktop).

Is there any way for me to read/log the controller pose? I have considered developing a native android app using the XR SDK for android studio, as a background task or foreground app, but I can't figure out how to run it while another app is running. 

The App doesn't need any UI, just need something/someway to read or log the controller pose.
