Maximum playable area

Hi all,

I have a playable area of 1Km square indoor. I want to use it to develop a real life scale maps where players have to walk to go anywhere.

what is the maximum playable area that the quest 3 or any other device can handle?
Is it even possible to go for 1Km square with current technology?

thanks,

best regards,

  • According to Meta support (answered on a similar query on Reddit a few years ago) "25 feet by 25 feet is the biggest recommended play-space for the optimal Quest / Quest 2" Not sure if Quest3 changes that.

If you're in developer mode, you can turn off the guardian altogether. In which case the world is your oyster 😄

Thank you for replaying. So what I really have is about 40 meters by 25 meters. And I would love to fill that up.

  • If it's a bespoke 'installation' i.e. you're not putting it up on the app store, then maybe just set all the headsets to no guardian. Then in the app itself, make sure that you provide plenty of warning for when the players are approaching the edge of the world space.
Do be careful though! Tracking can drift so even if you synchronise position starts (using spatial anchors or whatever technique you choose to align everyone's world position) you might run into problems.

It's not something I know that much about! Never had the luxury of such big spaces 😁 but maybe look into how Space Pirate Arena was made. I've heard the I-Illusion team are very approachable so maybe reach out to them https://i-illusions.com/games/spacepiratetrainerdx
Also get in touch with  Zimtok5  (here or on the various socials) he knows a lot about playing Quest games outdoors
