Quest 3 USB connection not recognized (development)
Hi,
I started with the developer instructions, but when I connect my Quest 3 to my USB port, nothing happens. The PC does not give any feedback that a device is connected and the Quest 3 also does not realize any connection.
Also in the Quest 3 Settings, I could not find the entry to enable developer mode. I found it however in the Meta app, but activating it did not make any developer settings visible like it was with the Quest 2.
My developer account is set up and verified according to the documentation. I also developed with the Quest 2 before.
I also tried the Quest Link (with the official cable from the Quest 2), but again the cable connection did not work. Air Link works fine via WIFI though.
Am I missing something? Did I miss installing a Quest 3 PC driver? Is my USB to old (3.0)? I tried different USB ports, 2.0 and 3, but with no difference.
Thanks!
Reboot your Quest 3 headset. Might be necesarry to do it twice but that did the trick for me.

I'm having the same issue on the Quest 3.
I have developer mode enabled on my phone's oculus app and have connected the Quest 3 via the Meta Quest Link Cable but don't see the USB connection section.
Edit: Got the message when connecting with my macbook so I'm guessing it's something wrong with my desktop motherboard

I tried with different USB 3 connections, but looks like only works with USB-C, so the connection in order to popup the message must be USB-C to USB-C.

I only have one USB-C connector on my mainboard and it also did not work using this. So far I never had any problems with USB devices, so I wonder if my PC does not meet the Quest 3 requirements. Changing the mainboard and all dependent components is I big deal, I would like to avoid that if possible.

Thanks! Rebooting did it for me. I can now see the developer entry in the settings and when I connect it to the PC it will be recognized. However, my usb connection still is very unstable, looks like my mainboard is not very compatible, probably not providing enough power on the USB port.

Having the same issue with USB C - C connection. On a windows 11, asus prime motherboard. Says USB malfunction

Make sure you have a high-quality data cable. USB C cables sold as phone chargers might not have the right circuitry to be compatible with the headset.

would the USBC cable that came with the Quest3 work or should it be a better quality USBC cable?
- virtual_frogProtege
I would hope the included cable works! I don't have USB C on my motherboard (and the included cable is a little short) so I had to use a different cable. Took me a few tries to find one that worked.
In the end I found it more convenient to use ADB over WiFi.

As an electronics engineer, statements like this drivel reallly annoy me.

Honestly, I think its insane that a brand new product like this can be released and not be able to plug into a brand new MacBook pro to see video recordings via USB!
I had no idea that videos over 10mb would not cloud sync to the Oculus App... this wasted 2days trying to figure out why it wouldn't download so i could share footage with friends. When i read that files over a certain size have to be transferred with a USBC cable i thought 'Brilliant' and then plugged the one i got with the MQ3 in and then NOTHING.... it wouldn't connect...
So then i went down the researching forums route... (seriously, this is a brand new device why wouldn't this knowledge be easy to obtain?) i found out i need to register as a bloody developer and then enter a special developer mode on everything? Just to download that funny 2min clip of me playing RoboRecall!
only it still doesn't connect!!
so infuriating!
Brand new M1 MBP16, Brand new MQ3, Brand new cable.
Not impressed!

This is rather off-topic but have you tried these instructions? I am certain you don't need to be a developer to transfer video recordings.

I really appreciate your time trying to help me. Sadly, ive tried all those steps. Ive downloaded the Android File Transfer program for Mac. But it still won't connect. Ive tried rebooting everything around 10 times each too.
i just get the oculus popup saying USB connected.
The Android tool then pops up on my mac and says "No Android device found. Please connect your Android device with a USB cable to get started." i click OK and then nothing happens.
I wonder if the Oculus USBC cable that came with it (not PCVR QuestLink cable) but the little white cable with the charger, is not uptown the standard needed?

Indeed it seems you are not the only one with this problem. I doubt the cable is the issue (though it's always possible). Someone mentioned that the third party application SideQuest worked for them.
Hopefully Meta will fix this with a software update. Best of luck.

Are there any news that meta solved this issue?
I have quest 3 and have tried connecting to windows, linux, and 2 different macbooks, I have yet not seen the pop on my quest. I have developer mode on and verified and have tried many cables (usb c to usb c, and usb c to usb 3) and usb c and usb 3 ports. I've also installed sidequest but it still says device not detected.
I've been 3 days trying to get them connected, in my main windows computer I've updated drivers, reinstalled bios and nothing seems to work. I don't know what else to try. Is it possible my quest 3 came with a hardware malfunction? (I don't think so because its the only thing so far that hasn't worked, but maybe it's possible, i dont know)
I'm on an ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 GA401QC - Ryzen 7 5800HS, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX 3050 4GB
Windows 11
Quest 3 version: 66.0.0.659.370.608928858
Quest 3 execution time version: 66.0.0.659.370.608929552
Operating system version: SQ3A.220605.009.A1
My main goal is to have my computer connected through adb over wifi but for that i understand i first have to connect them through cable and run: adb tcpip 5555. But I'm stuck with the quest not being detected, if anyone nows another way to connect through adb over wifi without needind a cabled connection that would be great.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the heads-up on Sidequest, I’d never heard of it so I had a look, downloaded it, connected it and got it up and running in less than 10mins.
amazing!

So are you using side quest instead of the oculus app? Also did you create a side quest account?

I had a long cable that I used to use with my Quest 2 fine, it no longer works with the Quest 3. (It is plugged nto a USBC to USB 3 adapter) I plugged the cable it came with into that adapter and iit gave the USB Allow prompt in the headset.
Cable selection seems to be more of an issue with the quest 3 unfortunately,...
