Surface Book 3 + Quest & Link compatibility?

Hi there,
I am currently developing a hand tracking application using the Quest and the Oculus Branch of UE4 with some custom code.  I recently acquired a Surface Book 3 to help and, although it says the 1660 Ti in my SB3 is compatible with the Link, I cannot get it to work and make a connection.  Side Quest works however, but I would love to be able to debug hand tracking directly in Unreal.  I've attempted to also for the OculusServer_X64  to be forced to run on the dGPU, but no such luck.

Is there any such hope for support for this in the near future?  IE having Link work properly on a Surface Book 3?  That would be exceptionally helpful for my development.

Thanks!

  • I've worked with support a fair amount on this issue, and few things that have cropped up:

    1) The 1660Ti w/ Q-Max is considerably slower than the regular 1660Ti. I feel pretty misled by Microsoft and nvidia on the matter, but it is what it is I guess.

    2) Like the SB and SB2 before it, it appears that the dGPU is not "talking" to the USB-C port or the other USB ports. I've tried with docks, 4 different cables, etc. Really, really frustrating, so please prove me wrong!

Thanks for the response, I've tried all ports and surface docks, setting to ultimate performance and any regedits I could read about, still no go.  I also feel misled, I love SBs, but this clearly should be branded as a 1660TiM or something.  I'm crossing my fingers for future support at least.

I can load into the Oculus VR home menu pretty easily and it is definitely using the dGPU for the rendering. Though Oculus' app prevents any of the downloaded apps from starting up except Oculus dreamscape. I can use Link to mirror my desktop just fine but can't play any games. Quite frustrating that it seems to be a software lock rather than any hardware limitations.

Using Quest 2, SB3, and crappy USB 2 cable for testing.

Same here, I'm extremely disappointed, and I feel misled by Microsoft.
For a 3k laptop it should support Oculus.
  • We are able to play steamVR games through link(as of the november quest update), just not the native apps. Strange that they totally lock out their own stuff, but we can get steamvr working with some tweaks!
