Users complain of black squares or "pixels" covering most of the screen

On Oculus Quest:

We've had some Supernatural users email us about an issue where the screen gets covered up by black squares (see attached image and video: https://drive.google.com/file/d/15-ILRwWuoodbGLYOrfqfl74jB21jmHZB/view?usp=sharing). I personally have occasionally seen a small line appear in the Oculus Home menu after disconnecting from Link, although I haven't scene them flicker like the user who reported this did.

In any case the black squares don't appear to be specific to Supernatural and persist across multiple different games and apps, until the headset is restarted.

There is a post on the consumer forums about the same issue in Racket NX:

  • @MikeF ... i can't tell if you are an oculus dev, or have you heard about this somewhere else? If so, please source?
I'm not sure we can deploy non il2cpp without leaving most of the code easily decompilable.

@carrotstien no, I emailed a link to this thread to our Oculus rep but haven't heard back yet
  • There is an issue that's been occuring with the Quest and the Qualcomm graphics drivers crashing. I believe this may be what's causing your issues. As far as I know, Oculus and Qualcomm are working together to try to isolate it, and have been for some time. When this graphical anomaly occurs, the only recourse is restarting the application. I first experienced this issue in PokerStars VR (the infamous black screen issue) and the distorted screen in Rec Room. This was over 6 months ago, and it still occurs in some games.

I'm not a Quest developer and have not heard this directly from Oculus themselves, but I have heard it directly from a major developer on the Quest platform. I know this info may not be useful in solving the issue, but hopefully it gives some guidance as to where it's originating. If I can provide more help or get more information for you, I will. You can contact me on Discord @ technotic#4370.

    Best of luck.
