Oculus Developer Hub won't record when button is press

Hello,

Before I could record from the ODH when pressing the Record Video button.  With the current version when I press it won't start to record but it shows an error, "Error: Device display is off".

Both my Oculus Quest 1 and ODH are updated.

thanks in advance.

Same issue here. Just about to film the video for the store and I get that error message. If I try to change the settings to 16:9 and then start recording in the headset it's still 1:1. How am I supposed to generate assets for the store? Meta seems to be trying very hard to drive everybody away. But of course as a dev one needs to fulfil 50 quality criteria and when uploading the APK the devloper hub throws at me another 10 criteria at me I have failed. And then there was their V47 bug where the headset was bricked for devs for a week. Oh, screenshots sometimes even saves something on the headset but the preview window here is just black. This is just riddled with bugs.

  • I was getting the same issue, until I switched Eye View to "Both eyes" in Recording settings.
After that it was possible to record using this button. The file is ofc larger (or in worse quality). It can be cropped  after recording to one-eye using eg. HandBrake.

Thanks. That indeed works but that basically then gives two square 1:1 images but to be able to create assets for the AppLab pages I need 16:9 and even more landscape. Also for the video. https://glasgowneuro.github.io/AttysHRV/ The trick mentioned here worked: select one eye, 16:9, highest res in the developer hub and then press record in the headset instead of in the developer hub. All pretty annoying especially when filming the clip.

PS: oh, Meta people did you update the shader compiler on the day of the shoot which caused low precision of floating point in the shader?

Hi. With both eyes luckily the video recording works with Mac and MQDH app, thank for that you all! Although.... what about casting with passthrough mode? Any luck there, anyone? Or we just have to wait for Side-quest to make a decent update for Mac too? 🥲

    Thanks in advance, Bianca

It works also with one eye. The trick is to change to the setting in MQDH you'd like to use and then press record in the headset. Done to make this clip: https://glasgowneuro.github.io/AttysHRV/ I set it to one eye and max bitrate. And then the presenter started the recording from within the headset.

Hi, thank you, will try again later then! But, what about the casting? The casting while the presenter was recording was black or you could see the environment around? I see that this method works showing the environment in passthrough only on the recordings, not live

  • Hi, I have the same issue. It worked within a headset as you guys explained, but I wanted to record in MQDH because of low spec of a headset. Recording on a headset makes application slows.
Besides, resolution of cast doesn't change. It was supposed to change from recording setting, but it's not now.

    Thanks,

  • The issue is resolved if you change recording settings to "both eyes"...
Unfortunately, I only want a single eye recording.
Please let me know if anyone finds a "single eye" solution

+1 - Same issue here on a Quest 2 and MQDH 3.6.0. Recording will work with "Both Eyes", but not any "Single Eye" option.

  • Me neither. I don't use both eyes recording. It's been 1 year, but it's not solved yet...

Even though I contact Meta support, they only tell me this community. So our option is only waiting...

  • How has meta not fixed a basic headset recording bug this far into its lifecycle? I'm on Quest pro, v54, its still an issue, can only record passthrough video with it set to both eyes. setting to single (the only useable setting for video) throws Error: Device display is off.
