360 Video File No longer Playing at 60 FPS (GearVR)

Where I work we rendered out a 60 FPS 2160x2160 Video that ran at 60 FPS on S6 Gear

I recently got a brand new S6 and Gear, installed everything and copied the file onto as before but when I run the video via Oculus video it only playsback at what appears to be 30 now.

The Oculus Video app has been updated recently would anything have changed.

Note: Playing the file through the S6's standard video player appears to run at a buttery Smooth 60 FPS.

  • Just a follow up on this.

We rendered out the video again, same specs as before. 2160x2160 60 FPS, 40 mbit

This time the video didn't get through more than 1 minute before the phone overheated.

As mentioned before, the video played fine at 60 FPS, several months ago on a SG6 Gear VR, the devices we use have nothing on them other than the Oculus Apps and this video?

Has the '360 Video player' app been changed since October last year?
  • ... I just checked the video out on my Older S6 which still has the Original 360 Video player and interface.

    Comparing the 2 devices

    sm-g920i - Runs Great - Older 360 Player
    sm-g920f - Runs Terrible - Latest 360 Player

Check the specs on the hardware they are identical, which suggest this is a software performance issue...
  • OH GAWD!

This is so embarrassing... I was using the WRONG APP!

I was running it in Oculus Video instead of 360 Videos....

Sorry about that... please delete this post! :?
