Better Unity Oculus integration for development

I'm not unhappy with the actual unity integration.. but i was wondering if it will be possible for the next version to make a easier way to test our demos/games more easly.

It's really boring and time consuming to build every time the game and test it with the DirectTorift exe.. it's much more easly to do just pressing Space or use the console on the UE4. Also.. what is REALLY.. but REALLY great with the UE4 is that you can switch between normal view and stereoscopic/oculus view with just a click of a button and it's everything already implemented in the engine itself.

I really.. really will be glad to see something like that in the next Unity integration.

It will be possible to see something like that? It's really useful to makes our games supported by both Monitor and Oculus much more easly and actually it's much simple to make tests etc.

If you can,Cyber bring this to the attention of the team behind the Unity integration! I think it will be a key feature.

  • On Unity you can drag the Game window onto the Rift (Extended Mode) and then press that little square icon on the top right. That should maximize the window (don't press maximize on play). I just did this and it seemed to work OK, aside from the fact that I was getting judder.

Oh.. i guess it's an issue with my current NVIDIA drivers because i can't get working the rift in extended mode if i'm not trying to play a directToRift build.. i was thinking it was something related to the latest SDK.

Well, thanks to point to that solution!

But what about the other thing? In the UE4 you can easly switch between "normal/standard view on a monitor" and the "Oculus Rift Mode" just pressing space(if i remember well),it will be possible to make something similar in unity too?
  • If you are on Nvidia driver 347.09, then you may have the double-image bug. Use 344.75 instead.

I can ask about getting a 2D/3D button as I think that would be really useful.

Great! Thanks a lot! I really think a 2D/3D button will help everybody a LOT!

    Thanks Cyber :D
  • Better integration is in the works already from Unity, but it seems to take a lot of time, just hang in there i guess ; )

I sort of wonder if they would be pushing for better integration to coincide with the release of Unity 5. Not sure when that's going to be but maybe something will happen with Unity 4 too.
  • My guess is that U5 is taking longer than they expected to get out, so most of their resources are put to get that out of the door first.
