Community suggestions and introduction

Hello to all of the Oculus development community! I am brand spanking new to VR as a gamer and a dev, but I have the itch to create some content.

I have an educational background in comp sci/software development, but I have never done any game dev. Right now I am going through the Introduction to VR section on the Oculus VR page, but there is so much other content to pour over that it is a bit dizzying. 

I was hoping for some advice from other members of the community on what to tackle after I am done reading through this initial information. I want to make sure that I arm myself with the right knowledge because the last thing I want to do is code some hacky garbage that makes my friends and family vomit on the floor of my play area.
