Determining when GearVR has been put on

Hey Folks,

We're preping a demo at a booth where we hope to have tons of folks giving our demo a shot for maybe 30 seconds each. As a result, we want to have a separate tutorial scene that quickly teaches folks how to use the GearVR inputs (actually only tapping) and is activated any time a user puts on the device. i.e.

- User A puts on the GearVR, sees tutorial scene and then main scene.
- User A takes off GearVR
- User B puts on the GearVR, and now sees tutorial scene again.

Is there any way to achieve this?

Thanks,
Saswat

  • I'm trying to find out if there is a way to do this.

I know the hardware itself can detect proximity, I'm just not sure if this is exposed in the SDK anywhere.

Did anyone ever figure this out? I'm trying to do exactly what sapanda described and having zero luck besides intercepting taps from the hardware trackpad to hard reset my scene. (Using Unity 5 / GearVR / Note4)
  • I believe your app would receive an OnPause event when a user removes the headset from their face. So you can handle this event and show a tutorial or reset to the beginning or whatever you need to do.
