Direct to Rift Problems

Cyberreality: If I am using a laptop with Nvidia Optimus but it is turned off in BIOS (only the Nvidia card is working), would that be equivalent to a desktop setup ? (regarding display issues) Or is there something more between non-optimus laptops and desktops?

I do have this issue of not being able to run Unity builds in direct mode: they always open in the main laptop screen.
