Easiest way to display text?
I'm trying to show a simple score display, using GUItext though doesn't work with Oculus.
Having said that, no GUItext actually shows when viewing through the Rift...
VRGUI seems to be something I'm looking for, but for now I just wanted to know if there's a dirt easy way to display simple text on the Rift. Doesn't matter if it follows the camera or not.
Or is the only way to get it to work using a 3rd party solution like VRGUI?
Cheers

- gunairExplorerHi
Have a a look at the new BETA unity version 4.6. Haven't tested it yet, but there's a new GUI System in it, which should be very easy to use (and enhanced and easier to use, esp. for the Rift too!).

Ah, read about that! Will try it out and post back here to say how it went.
Danke und ebenfalls Grüße aus Deutschland :D
EDIT:
Alright, from what I've seen after 5 minutes of playing around with the 4.6 beta:
The new UI system is kinda amazing, I can see it saving a lot of people a lot of time.So far I can at most only get it to render on one of the Rift cameras though. There might be an easy fix that I'm overlooking.
Okay, changing the Canvas' Render Mode to World Space and then selecting the right Rift camera shows it on both sides... Not sure how this affects the 3D depth of it.
Made a quick demo, seem to work just fine in the Rift using the above mentioned method.
The default Canvas size is insane though...
Anyone else that has played with it, please feel free to share your settings/experience. - gabrieadHonored Guest@ Kingrocket: Could you explain what you used in the end to display text? I am working on the same thing and up until now
I am using a cube with a texture. The GUI Text never seemed to work with the rift. Thanks a lot. Auch von mir Grüße aus Deutschland :D - GoesTo11Protege

As he stated in his last post, the new GUI system in the 4.6 beta is great for making a rift UI. - vOwlExplorer

Forget about the old Unity GUI System and welcome the new uGUI. :)
Grab the latest 4.6 beta here http://unity3d.com/unity/beta/4.6 and check out the tutorials http://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/modules/beginner/ui.
As already mentioned above: setting the canvas to "world space" works out pretty well with the OVRCameraController. - gabrieadHonored GuestHi guys,
I now have the opportunity to try out the new UI system but unfortunately I don't get an output on the rift.
I am using the OVRPlayerController of the updated Oculus integration. I added a Canvas to my RightEyeAnchor and then added text. I changed RenderMode to WorldSpace but I don't see a thing on my Oculus. Can someone explain in detail how he got it to work? That would be excellent!!
Edit: I can add an image to the Canvas and that is displayed, but no still no text! - untalmauHonored Guestsolved ?
i need the same help.. with exactly the same problem ...
thanks for any help - vrdavebOculus StaffUnity 4.6 and up include uGUI, a much-better UI system. It allows you to make world-space text boxes and other widgets. Have a look at http://docs.unity3d.com/Manual/HOWTO-UIWorldSpace.html. To see it in action, download the Oculus Utilities for Unity 5 and open the scene Assets/OVR/Scenes/Room.unity. When you press Space, we show a uGUI-based heads-up display. It works in my tests.
