far clipping plane bug (>1000 has no effect)
I have a 1000x1000 units (meter) big playing field. So when I am at one corner I can no longer see the the opposite corner with far clipping set to 1000.
But changing the value has no effect - I set it to 5000 in the end to be sure, but still the other corner is clipped away.
The setting can be set on the OVRCameraController as well as on CameraLeft & CameraRight.
Is it a bug or am I missing something? I'd rather stick with my 1 Unity unit = 1m scale.

- MikeArms24Honored GuestHi Gerald I thought this was a bug too, but then I found out what was going on. I was instantiating the controller so I couldn't just change the prefab at the child level. I had to pull the controller back into the scene and dive deeper into the camera controller left camera and right camera and manually set the clip planes on the cameras themselves at the deepest level, then replace the prefab with the new one.
- GeraldExpert ProtegeHi Mike,
awesome - so the easy fix ... just press "apply" on one of the cameras so the values are used. :lol:
Thank you so much, suddenly it no longer "breaks" :) - ShiftyPumpkinHonored GuestWow, thank you for this. I've been banging my head for half the weekend trying to figure out why the cameras seem to be clipping at 1000 regardless of my in-game settings. I feel kinda stupid for not thinking of it earlier. :lol:
- CaineHonored GuestSince installing the new SDK I can't seem to get any changes to the OVRCamera components to stick - whether using 'apply' or saving over the prefab, anyone else having this issue?

You're probably running into this: viewtopic.php?f=37&t=3650 - CaineHonored Guest

Thanks, that's it exactly :) - cahortonExplorerHi, I'm trying to make a clipping plane of 2000 and after following the steps above it does not seem to be working. I set the far clipping value to 2000 in the OVR Camera Controller and the child CameraRight & CameraLeft objects and hit apply. I tried deleting the OVR Camera controller prefab and dragging in another from the project view. The far clipping values looked correct at 2000. Still no luck.
I even looked in the OVRCameraController.cs file and it has the serialized field line as suggested:[SerializeField]
private float farClipPlane = 1000.0f;
public float FarClipPlane...
Any ideas short of changing the OVRCameraController.cs file itself? Thanks in advance... - cyberealityGrand ChampionYou just need to adjust the value on the OVRCameraController (not on the cameras). I just tested it and can confirm that it works properly.
- cahortonExplorerThanks CyberReality, that helped. My problem was that there are two components attached to my OVRCameraController that have far clipping values: a Camera component and an OVRCamera Controller Script component. I had set the Camera far clip to 2000, but had missed the script value, which is apparently the only thing that matters.
- J014Honored GuestThat's awesome, I was adjusting only the Clipping plane for the left and right cameras. Didn't know I should do the same for the OVR camera controller. It worked for me.
Thanks alot,
