Is PC or Mac's version of Unity better for Rift dev?
I'm new to Unity and noticed the official Unity tutorials https://unity3d.com/learn/tutorials/projects/roll-a-ball/moving-the-player?playlist=17141 and the top rated Udemy tutorials have people using Unity for Mac. I just want to create apps for the Rift and am assuming you should be using Windows to develop in - but is this a misconception on my part, or are some of you actually building in Mac and exporting your builds to Windows? What are the downsides to developing on a Mac in this way? My GearVR is in the mail so I haven't tested on my own yet.
I googled this topic and searched these forums and didn't find an answer. Thanks
TL;DR: What's the downside to building Rift apps on a Mac?

- AnonymousThe Oculus no longer supports Mac for the Oculus Rift.
Works fine though for Gear VR development.
And using Unity you could certainly code and build a project on the Mac that is to end up on Windows with Oculsu Rift but issue will be testing and revising. On Gear it compiles for Android and sends to gear where you try it out.
For Rift you'd have to send compile to windows box and run it there. Much more time consuming and makes debugging harder. - vrdavebOculus StaffPlease see viewtopic.php?t=28780&p=317798. Both Unity and LibOVR still work on OSX, but we haven't updated the native SDK since 0.5.0.1 and it won't work with the consumer Rift, only DK1 and DK2. If you use it today, your app should run, but there are some known issues such as screen tearing and judder. We have also received reports that DK2 positional tracking does not work with El Capitan due to a driver API break in that OS. We plan to fix these issues, but they are much lower priority for us than the current Windows and Android tasks we are working on. Overall, I would recommend using Windows if you have it available. It's also worth noting that 99% of Mac hardware is not VR-capable, so you should not expect good performance on any MacBook.
